The 20th century summary: (approximate figures given)

1914-18: WWI - c. 15 million war dead.

1930's - 50's: Stalinist purges in the USSR - c. 30-50 million through forced labor, genocide and starvation over the duration of his government.

1933 - 1945: Hitler's Nazi regime - c. 30-40 million, mostly during WWII (see above)

. 1949 - 60's: Mao's communist regime in China - purges c. 20-40 million through genocide and mass starvation.

1976-79: Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia - c. 2-3 million

1990's: Yugoslavia break up - civil war and ethnic genocide by all groups, estimate c. 1-2 million

1990's: Rwanda - c. 2 million in genocides and civil war.
